Apple offers encryption to its customers, but the UK government wants to break it

The UK government has reportedly made an unprecedented demand for Apple to grant it access to data stored by any customer, anywhere in the world, even if it is encrypted. The request, first reported by The Washington Post, means Apple will either be forced comply, or else withdraw its encrypted services from the UK. Both outcomes are likely to be harmful for ordinary Apple customers.
